New York Yankees third baseman, Alex Rodriguez will be in the Yankees line up tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies. Rodriguez will bat clean up and will play as the designated hitter. Hopefully his minor groin injury will not affect his plate appearance and he can help the Yankees take another game from the Phillies. Rodriguez was batting a .317 in his last 10 games before his injury occurred.

On Saturday, Miguel Cotto and Yuri Foreman will bring boxing back to Yankee Stadium for the first time since Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton went toe-to-toe for 12 rounds in 1976. The return to the big stage has fight fans all across the Big Apple talking. And talking. And talking.
If there’s one thing New Yorkers aren’t shy about, it’s sharing their opinions. And not just about the match itself, but how the historic bout touches on religion, literary boxing influences, ethnic parades, hip-hop and the ongoing interborough grudge match.
“Anytime you have anything other than baseball at Yankee Stadium, it’s a prestigious event. To have [Miguel] Cotto fighting there is incredible, it’s cultural for us. Cotto’s a gladiator, he’ll die in the ring. He has my respect as a man any day. It’ll be exciting because the Brooklyn fans will be out to support their fighter. I was there at MSG when Cotto fought [Zab] Zudah and the environment in the building was tense. I’m gonna get ringside in Yankee Stadium, up close and personal to watch my man Cotto explode and knock [Yuri] Foreman out. I’m not much of a decision guy; I want the fireworks.” — Fat Joe, rapper/CEO of Terror Squad Entertainment, Bronx
• “We’re going to have a real clash of the titans right here in the Bronx, in our very own brand-new coliseum. The enthusiasm for this fight and the return of boxing to Yankee Stadium is very obvious across the Bronx. We’ve always been known for world-class baseball, and now we’ll be known for world-class boxing as well. While I think both fighters are solid, Miguel Cotto has a huge fan base in the Bronx, myself included.” — Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Linebacker Jason Taylor is leaving the Dolphins to play for the Jets, his agent, Gary Wichard, told the Miami Herald.
League sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Taylor — the NFL’s active sacks leader with 127½ — agreed to a two-year deal that could be worth as much as $3.75 million in the first year.
The Miami Herald reported that Taylor is tentatively scheduled to travel to the New York area on Wednesday to sign the contract.
Because of the Final Eight rules that restrict the Jets from signing Taylor for more in the first year than what Jay Feely received from leaving the Jets to join the Cardinals, Taylor will be on the Jets’ books for $1.75 million in 2010, but he could earn another $1.25 million to $2 million depending upon his performance.

Despite not being physically fit for most of the season, Wilson Chandler quietly – he knows no other way – performed above expectations.
A painful groin injury eventually knocked him out for good in March, and now it appears that his surgically repaired left ankle also hampered the Knicks’ shooting guard/small forward. According to a team source, Chandler might need surgery to remove scar tissue from his ankle. Last June, Chandler had surgery to remove bone spurs.
No decision on Chandler will be made until after Tuesday night’s season finale against Toronto. If surgery is required, the procedure will not keep Chandler sidelined for an extended period of time.
He should be healthy well before the Knicks report back to work in late September. Chandler, a surprise first-round pick by then-team president Isiah Thomas in 2007, is a player Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni agree will be a big part of the club’s future.

Yankees president Randy Levine has heard it often, but he’s had enough of complaints from small-market owners about payroll disparity.
Milwaukee owner Mark Attanasio was quoted in Monday’s USA Today saying, “We’re struggling to sign (Prince Fielder) and the Yankees infield is making more” than the entire Brewers roster.
“As I’ve said, Mark’s a good friend, but he needs to stop whining and complaining about our player payroll,” Levine told the Daily News. “We play by all the rules, and we always have. We’ve contributed hundreds of millons of dollars in revenue sharing and no one complains when they get the money.
“But use that money to sign your players. Period. As you notice, the complaining always comes from others, not from us.”

The Mets got exactly what they expected out of Johan Santana in their season-opening win over the Marlins on Monday.
Now comes the hard part: Seeing what the other four-fifths of the starting rotation will give them.
And that starts tonight, when John Maine takes the mound against Florida at Citi Field after yesterday’s off day.
“You always want to get the year started off strong,” Maine said. “It’s the same thing every season. Your first couple of starts, you’re anxious and you want to get off on the right foot. No matter what you’ve been through to get there, that doesn’t change.”

All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes has been told to rest and refrain from athletic activity for two to eight weeks until his thyroid levels normalize, another blow to the New York Mets before Opening Day.
Center fielder Carlos Beltran already is expected to miss the first month of the season following right knee surgery Jan. 13. Reyes likely will be starting the season on the disabled list as well.
“It doesn’t look good right now.” Mets general manager Omar Minaya said Thursday. “We will have to prepare for that.”
Reyes has been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid, and his levels were elevated after he exercised Monday and Tuesday. Although he initially thought he might be able to return after a few days, he will have to stop working out and will remain at home.
