Sanchez Has No Say…!!!

Posted by GameSetMatch on 27th March 2012

With the recent addition of quarterback Tim Tebow to the New York Jets, some may wonder what current number one quarterback Mark Sanchez had to say. Sanchez downplayed the addition of Tebow to the team and says that he is not worried. Others wondered if the Jets front office contacted Sanchez to let him know about Tebow coming to the team. Recently, Jets head coach Rex Ryan stated, “Mark Sanchez is a QB, not a GM. So he wasn’t consulted about the Tim Tebow deal.” With strong words like that, one must wonder what is really going through the head of Mark Sanchez. If he is suppose to be the leader of the offense, why would u bring in another young gun to back him up that has a potential to be a starter. Are the Jets using this as a plan to light a fire under Sanchez, or are they having second thoughts about their starter. I can only assume and speculate but I wish I were a fly in the room the day the coaches and GM talked about picking up Tim Tebow. Those of us locked outside of the meeting have no idea what was said and what is the future plans going forward with the Jets until training camp and pre-season. Are they going to run a two-quarterback system, or are they going to one as the regular offense and one as a wildcat. How wit that help the offensive chemistry flow throughout the season. The biggest concern with switching out the quarterbacks for certain plays are what about the offensive lineman. The interior defense dines under the sabotage. Having and left handed and right handed quarterback can mess with the lineman chemistry as to who is the back side protector at certain points of the game. All these questions will be answered this upcoming season and we will get a good look at what will happen to the Jets offensively.

Let’s Be Friends: Jets Let Up On Yapping For Steelers Matchup

Posted by sasilverandblack on 19th January 2011

The New York Jets are in the AFC Championship game for the second time in as many years. Only this time, they stand a much better chance. Or do they?

Coming into the season the Jets were viewed as one of the favorites to go to Dallas for the Super Bowl. After completing an 11-5 regular season, sneaking by the Colts in the Wild Card, and “upsetting” the mighty Belichickians in the divisional round, they are one game away from meeting those predictions. The only thing that stands in their way are the battle-tested, 12-4 Pittsburgh Steelers. Do the Jets stand a chance? After all, they didn’t stand much of a chance against the 14-2 Patriots last week.

The good news for the Jets: Santonio Holmes is sure to have another breakout performance, as is the norm for him in the playoffs. The bad news for the Jets: Mark Sanchez, Holmes, and company will not be playing New England’s defense this week. It’s up to Rex Ryan and the wonderkind Sanchez to put together an offensive game that resembles their performance against the Patriots to get the best of Pittsburgh’s staunch defense. The Steelers defense is superb at virtually every position, so mental lapses cannot be tolerated.

Unlike the previous two weeks, the Jets are erring on the side of respect in the media. No cheap shots on the opposing quarterback’s preparation habits, no “this is personal” statements, no inflammatory remarks. Instead, they are likening Ben Roethlisberger to a polar bear when describing the difficulty in bringing the 6′5′ 240-pound quarterback to the ground. But wait a minute, is this the same team?

The Jets already defeated the Steelers in their week 15 matchup by a score of 22-17. Perhaps they don’t feel a need to provoke them. After all, the Jets were licking their wounds from the 45-3 shellacking they took at the hands of the Patriots in the regular season and the AFC Championship Game defeat last year at the hands of the Colts. They were ready to avenge those losses. So ready that they felt the need to relay their swagger through trash talk. They’ve already conquered the Steelers, now they just have to do it again. Plus they are getting their kick return and wildcat specialist Brad Smith back.

Rex Ryan and Mike Tomlin have expressed their admiration and respect for each other. So where was that last week against the Patriots? I guess there’s no room for admiration and respect when it comes to your divisional rival.

So why taunt someone who’s already been defeated? Or could their quietness possibly be because they don’t want to wake a sleeping giant? New York better be ready to play this time, because the Steelers’ defense is just as good, if not better, than their offense. It should be a good one. And it’ll be trash talk free, the way it should be.

Reports: Sanchez has knee examined

Posted by GameSetMatch on 28th January 2010

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had his right knee examined by Dr. James Andrews, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

Sanchez visited Andrews on Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala., but it was not immediately certain if the quarterback will need surgery. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not commented publicly on Sanchez’s visit.

Sanchez missed one game after suffering a mild sprain of the posterior cruciate ligament against Buffalo on Dec. 3 in Toronto. He had no apparent signs of injury during the last several weeks of the season, as he helped lead the Jets to the AFC championship game.

Rookie Sanchez efficiently leads Jets to first playoff berth in three seasons

Posted by GameSetMatch on 4th January 2010

Rex and The Sanchise are headed to the playoffs, lucky breaks and all.

Same Old J-E-T-S? Nope, not this time.

Rex Ryan’s top-ranked defense shut down Cincinnati and rookie Mark Sanchez efficiently led a clock-eating offense as the New York Jets clinched their first playoff berth in three seasons with a 37-0 victory Sunday night at the frigid Meadowlands.

“It’s a special feeling,” Sanchez said. “A few weeks ago, people had us counted out.”

Needing a win to keep their season going, and playing in front of frosted fans braving Arctic conditions, the Jets (9-7) set up a rematch against the AFC North champion Bengals (10-6) in the first round Saturday at Cincinnati.

Jets’ Sanchez donates hot dogs

Posted by GameSetMatch on 28th October 2009

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is trying to turn Hot Dog-Gate into an opportunity to help the less fortunate in New Jersey.

Sanchez has bought 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers, along with buns and rolls, through A&P supermarket, and donated them to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, N.J.

Sanchez was the subject of criticism — and he later issued an apology — when he was caught on camera Sunday eating a hot dog on the sideline during the Jets’ 38-0 victory against the Raiders.

Sanchez leads opportunistic Jets past Raiders 38-0

Posted by GameSetMatch on 26th October 2009

The demeanor of the two starting quarterbacks at the end of the game summed it all up.

Mark Sanchez was sneaking a hot dog on the New York Jets’ sideline, while JaMarcus Russell watched solemnly as backup Bruce Gradkowski finished up another blowout loss for the Oakland Raiders on the other.

The Jets achieved their goal of taking pressure off their rookie quarterback, forcing four turnovers and running for 316 yards in a 38-0 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.

“It makes it so easy on the offense when your defense is playing like that,” Sanchez said.

Jets suffer awful loss to lowly Bills, 16-13 in OT

Posted by rsanrel on 19th October 2009

They were eager to prove that what occurred six days earlier was an aberration, that it was just a slight hiccup.

The Jets weren’t feeling like big shots coming off that Monday Night Meltdown, but they were confident that they were going to get things turned around Sunday against the Bills, a team that was reeling and had dropped its previous eight contests against AFC East opponents. This was supposed to be their get-well game, with the Bills providing the perfect fodder to pound into submission and cure their ills.

Never happened, though, and now the Jets are the team that’s reeling after a 16-13 overtime loss. The Jets have dropped three straight since their season-opening three-game winning streak.

In a game in which the Jets had several chances to put Buffalo away, they made too many miscues and not enough plays, failing to step on the Bills’ throats despite the countless opportunities.

Ryan Lindell banged a 47-yard field goal through with 2:44 left in overtime – making amends for a 46-yard miss at the end of regulation – to put the finishing touches on a stinging loss that left the Jets searching for answers.

“It’s unfortunate,” linebacker Bart Scott said. “We knew that team was going to come out and play hard. We knew they were a competitive group. We let one get away, but we have to go back and reanalyze ourselves. We’ll find out a lot about ourselves. There will be a lot of things said, and deservedly so. We deserve every negative thing that’s being said about us.”

There’s going to be a lot of negative things said about the Jets’ golden rookie quarterback, who had a stinker of a game. Mark Sanchez was a turnover machine, whipping ill-advised passes around and never getting into any sustained rhythm. He threw five interceptions and finished with a quarterback rating of 8.3, completing 10 of 29 attempts for 119 yards.

Ryan’s brash attitude rubs off on Jets in upset victory over Patriots

Posted by GameSetMatch on 21st September 2009

During the third quarter of their team’s back-up-the-smack-talk victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday, Marques Douglas turned to fellow defensive tackle Kris Jenkins on the New York Jets’ sidelines and said, “Hey, this young guy has something.”

Douglas was talking about Mark Sanchez, the rookie quarterback who had just made a couple of big throws that helped put the Jets in front not only for the first time in the game but for the first time since 2001 at the Meadowlands against New England.

“If we can give him more plays on offense,” Douglas told Jenkins, “he’s going to be successful.”

The defense did its part, blitzing the Patriots into submission and flustering Tom Brady. Sanchez did his part, completing just enough passes and performing with just enough efficiency (save for that fumble while being sacked on his first play from scrimmage) to complement that strong defensive effort.

Jets hoping Sanchez’s performance a glimpse of greatness to come

Posted by adam20 on 31st August 2009

Two things Mark Sanchez showed here Saturday night left the New York Giants, NFL scouts in attendance, his teammates and his coaches alert and influenced:
1) Sanchez has fancy feet. He can dance his way out of trouble and create new passing lines and buy extra time and make it testy for defenders, even when it looks like they have him in a bind.
2) Sanchez is a better athlete than advertised. He entered the draft from USC considered a good athlete. He is showing against NFL competition that everyone should reconsider just where his athleticism ranks.

Sanchez joined a photo shoot with Giants quarterback Eli Manning prior to kickoff. By game’s end, Sanchez stole the frame: His passer rating was 104.0. Manning’s was 51.9.
“He played great,” Rex Ryan gushed, with a big wide grin that revealed just how happy he is to be a rookie head coach attached to this rookie quarterback. “I think we all feel good about our quarterback.”
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said of the Sanchez-Stuckey connection and score: “It was a heck of a play by the young quarterback just to stay alive…” It showed what gives Sanchez a chance to be a relevant factor in the NFL this season. It happened with 6:50 left before halftime.

‘Dreams are coming true’: Rookie Sanchez is Jets’ starting QB

Posted by GameSetMatch on 28th August 2009

The future is now for the new face of the New York Jets, Mark Sanchez. First-year coach Rex Ryan announced Wednesday that he had selected Sanchez to be the team’s starting quarterback, making him the first rookie scheduled to open a season under center for the Jets.

“This comes with a lot of responsibility,” Sanchez said. “As happy as I am, I know that this is just the beginning, and I’m just excited, really excited to get to play with such great players.” Sanchez, the fifth overall draft pick out of USC, beat out Kellen Clemens for the job and will make his regular-season debut Sept. 13 at Houston. “This is something I’ve always wanted to do, and dreams are coming true now,” Sanchez said. “It’s a special opportunity.”

Ryan, who made the announcement after practice, said early in training camp that he’d like to make a decision on a starter by the Jets’ third preseason game, which comes Saturday night against the New York Giants.

“I think Mark gives us the best opportunity to win,” Ryan said, “and I think that’s what I owe this franchise.”
