The New York Jets opened the season by punishing opposing quarterbacks, hitting them at will and forcing them into all kinds of mistakes.
Well, that big, bad pass rush has been sacked for a few games, and the Jets want to revive it starting this Sunday against Buffalo.
“To say the numbers are down, yeah,” coach Rex Ryan said. “Buffalo had more sacks against Miami in one game than we’ve gotten all season. We only have four sacks. Obviously, we’ve got to get after the passer a lot better than that.”
New York is tied with Jacksonville for the fewest sacks in the NFL with four in five games. That’s not exactly the type of statistic that was expected when Ryan brought his aggressive style of defense along with him from Baltimore.

27 SEP 2009: Ahmad Bradshaw (44) of the Giants breaks away from Geno Hayes (54) of the Buccaneers during the game between the New York Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
With 10 players already on their injury report, coach Tom Coughlin found a new name on the list Wednesday: backup halfback Ahmad Bradshaw, who rushed for 104 yards in New York’s 24-0 win over Tampa Bay this past weekend.
Bradshaw walked to practice wearing a boot on his right foot to protect sprains to his ankle and foot. He did not work out.
Neither Coughlin nor Bradshaw seemed concerned whether the backup to starter Brandon Jacobs would play Sunday when the Giants (3-0) travel to Kansas City (0-3).
It’s an old college injury, Bradshaw said, remembering his initial injury — a high ankle sprain — came on a toss play during his freshman year at Marshall.
“You know what, I have played through a lot of pain during college, when I first injured it,” Bradshaw said. “I have just been able to do that ever since. It always hurts during the game. There is a lot of pounding in the game, somebody might fall on it a different way.”

It was only eight months ago that Woody Johnson was skewered for vacationing outside the country instead of flirting with free-agent coach Bill Cowher. It probably wasn’t the best-timed getaway for the Jets’ owner, who had no head coach at the time, but as an old football coach used to say, “How did it turn out?”
Three weeks into the season, Johnson looks like a genius. He dumped Eric Mangini, who might be less welcome in Cleveland than oil sludge on Lake Erie, in favor of Rex Ryan. Mangini is 0-3, his team on the verge of mutiny. Ryan is 3-0, backing up months of bravado with actual results.
Johnson, in an interview yesterday with the Daily News, didn’t want to take any bows. He has been around the game for nearly a decade, long enough to know that things can change in a hurry, but he’s absolutely convinced he made the right move. And his reasons go beyond X’s and O’s.

IT is a bloodthirsty, attack defense that destroys you physically and mentally, if not emotionally, with both brain and brawn, and opposing quarterbacks are advised to hide the women and children in their lives. A review of the tape of Sunday’s 16-9 Jets win over the Patriots showed that, much to Gisele Bundchen’s chagrin, Tom Brady was hit 23 times by the Bruise Brothers who Rex Ryan has turned loose on the NFL. That’s a high amount, even by the sadistic standards of the Jets’ rookie head coach — and a graybeard statue named Kerry Collins is next on the hit list.
“If we can rattle [Brady],” nickelback Donald Strickland said, “other opposing offenses, we’re sure we can rattle them.”
Ryan was asked whether the Jets rattled Brady with hits or pressures.
“It’s the combo platter: If you don’t knock him down, but you still hit the quarterback physically? Then that’s a hit,” Ryan said. “And that was the key to that game. We had to get pressure on him. If you bring three to get there, great. . . . Four, five, six, seven, eight . . . whatever it takes, we thought we had to do that.”

At Fantasy Football Challenge they have analyzed statistics and trends from over 25 different data points to come up with their own 2009 Fantasy Football Weekly Cheat Sheets.
Some of the data points (injuries to offenseive and/or defensive players, etc.) are difficult to equate into a fantasy point calculation, but they do note them so you can be aware of them when making your fantasy selections. Many of the game situations (ie number of games played against a particular opponent on the road) may also have so little data available that they can not be used in the calculation as reliably as other data points (ie number of games played on the road).
To compensate for the disparity in data, the data points with more game data is weighted more than those with less data. This allows them to still use all factors in their formula, yet minimize the affect any random outlying data point may have. Fantasy Player Comparison
They are confident that their fantasy cheatsheets provide more data for each player than any other free cheat sheet available, and although all of the statistics may not be critical for every week, it will give you a more complete view of how a player performs under the upcoming week’s circumstances. they beliver the cheatsheets will give you the information and trends you need in order to be successful in your fantasy football league.

Welcome to the NFL, Mark Sanchez. Now, let’s see what you can do against one of the league’s toughest defenses.
The New York Jets rookie quarterback will get his first career start against Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens — coach Rex Ryan’s former team — in a preseason Monday Night Football game on Aug. 24.
“I have my work cut out for me,” Sanchez said Sunday with a laugh. “That’s why it wouldn’t be right of me or anyone else to make this a make-or-break game.”
After all, it’s still just the preseason and the Jets’ quarterback competition between Sanchez and Kellen Clemens is far from being decided.
