Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had his right knee examined by Dr. James Andrews, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.
Sanchez visited Andrews on Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala., but it was not immediately certain if the quarterback will need surgery. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not commented publicly on Sanchez’s visit.
Sanchez missed one game after suffering a mild sprain of the posterior cruciate ligament against Buffalo on Dec. 3 in Toronto. He had no apparent signs of injury during the last several weeks of the season, as he helped lead the Jets to the AFC championship game.

The playoffs are a reality for the 2009 New York Jets. Yes, the PLAYOFFS! Forget the retiring and un-retiring of Brett Favre, forget the rookie quarterback and head coach, and yes, doubly forget about Mr Diva himself Tom Brady being 100% healthy. No matter what kind of odds Vegas stacked against them they are in.
Riddle me this bloggers, currently the Jets at 10-7 are moving on to face the equally hot San Diego Chargers in the 2009 Divisional round of the playoffs, while their AFC east rivals (the Patriots) were just knocked out after a thrashing on their home field by the 6th seed wild card Ravens.
This leads to the question are the Jets better off without Brett Favre? Defensive changes, Rex Ryan upgrade, Braylon Edwards, and other things aside, What do you think?
… A few numbers for you
2008 Jets
3516 – total passing yards
2004 – total rushing yards
5520 – Total Yards
2009 Jets
2596 – total passing yards
2756 – total rushing yards
5352 – Total Yards

Rex and The Sanchise are headed to the playoffs, lucky breaks and all.
Same Old J-E-T-S? Nope, not this time.
Rex Ryan’s top-ranked defense shut down Cincinnati and rookie Mark Sanchez efficiently led a clock-eating offense as the New York Jets clinched their first playoff berth in three seasons with a 37-0 victory Sunday night at the frigid Meadowlands.
“It’s a special feeling,” Sanchez said. “A few weeks ago, people had us counted out.”
Needing a win to keep their season going, and playing in front of frosted fans braving Arctic conditions, the Jets (9-7) set up a rematch against the AFC North champion Bengals (10-6) in the first round Saturday at Cincinnati.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is trying to turn Hot Dog-Gate into an opportunity to help the less fortunate in New Jersey.
Sanchez has bought 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers, along with buns and rolls, through A&P supermarket, and donated them to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, N.J.
Sanchez was the subject of criticism — and he later issued an apology — when he was caught on camera Sunday eating a hot dog on the sideline during the Jets’ 38-0 victory against the Raiders.

The demeanor of the two starting quarterbacks at the end of the game summed it all up.
Mark Sanchez was sneaking a hot dog on the New York Jets’ sideline, while JaMarcus Russell watched solemnly as backup Bruce Gradkowski finished up another blowout loss for the Oakland Raiders on the other.
The Jets achieved their goal of taking pressure off their rookie quarterback, forcing four turnovers and running for 316 yards in a 38-0 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.
“It makes it so easy on the offense when your defense is playing like that,” Sanchez said.
