No matter what time the game starts these days, the New York Yankees are ready to win.
Mark Teixeira homered and drove in three runs, CC Sabathia recovered from a shaky start and New York extended its winning streak to seven Thursday night with a rain-delayed 6-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Jorge Posada knocked in two runs and Phil Hughes tossed two perfect innings for his first major league save as New York increased its AL East lead to 2 1/2 games over idle Boston.

Even for the recently high-flying Yankees, the thought of a six-game road trip against the Twins and Angels was enough to furrow a few brows. A stumble before the All-Star break had the potential to do more than arrest this team’s progress. It had the potential to reverse it.
But in 3 1/2 hours of convincing baseball on Tuesday, CC Sabathia and the Bronx Bombers reaffirmed that the past two weeks have not been a fluke. They hit as well as they pitched, they pitched as well as they hit, and they bundled all of that into a 10-2 victory at the Metrodome.

ATLANTA — If there is a significant hurdle standing between CC Sabathia and a Subway Series start against the Mets on Friday, the left-handed ace doesn’t see it.
Sabathia expects to throw a light bullpen session on Wednesday at Turner Field to determine if he can continue to be listed as New York’s starting pitcher for the Yankees’ first visit to Citi Field. “I’m going to go out there and feel good and be able to pitch,” Sabathia said. “I feel like I’m going to feel fine tomorrow. That’s why I keep saying I’m going to be pitching on Friday.” Sabathia is battling tendinitis in his left biceps, which he called “a little tired arm” in speaking to reporters on Tuesday. Sabathia said he spent the off-day icing a couple of times at the Yankees’ team hotel outside Atlanta, and will continue to receive treatment in advance of the start.
